Great Earth Walk, Saturday May 1, 2004


Walkers will have the option of registering and walking on either the west side of the Bay at the Muth Interpretive Center or on the east side of the Bay at either Shellmaker or the Friends Lookout at EastBluff. Suggested three-mile walks are shown on the UNB Walk Map (pdf file for downloading and printing). Docent-led nature walks will be given at the Interpretive Center. See Walk Timetable. The California Coastal Commission and the Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends will have Education Stations set up at Big Canyon, roughly at the mid point of Back Bay Drive, as a destination point for for those starting their walks at Shellmaker or the Friends Lookout. Docents will provide information on the plants, birds and other wildlife of the Bay.

Shuttle bus service will be provided from the Interpretive Center to Shellmaker Island via the Friends Lookout for those who want to walk/ride to Shellmaker, enjoy Estuary Awareness Day and ride back.
