Over 25 volunteers joined REI
Orange County Stewardship Project and Outdoor School leaders for
a kayak cleanup event at Upper Newport Bay on February 8 in
collaboration with the Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends. The
group met at the Newport Aquatic Center and spent nearly three
hours out on the water picking up trash washed down into the Bay
with the recent storm. Over 1,000 lbs. of plastic bottles, Styrofoam
plates and other items were collected within just a few hundred feet
of the launch point.
