Wishbone Bush
(Mirabilis californica)
Plant: Low bush, somewhat woody, many branches. Name comes from the forked stems which resemble a chicken "wishbone".
Flowers: Five red-violet sepals, 1/2 inch long and look like petals. Is night- pollinated so they open in mid afternoon.
Leaf: Opposite each other on stems, 1 inch long, oval to heart shaped.
