White Sage
(Salvia apiana)
Plant: Perennial, woody at the base, 3 to 6 feet tall, whitish with hairs that lie along the stem.
Flowers: Few in open collections, petals white lined with lavender, 1/2 to 1 inch long. Stamens extend well beyond the petals.
Leaf: Oblong, 1-1/4 to 4 inches long with scalloped edges.
Flowering period:
April to July
Use by Indians:
Young stalks were eaten raw.
