Plant: A perennial plant forming large tufts two to four feet tall with stout stiff pointed stems.
Flowers: Two to four in small clusters with stamens and pistils which look like a minute lily.
Fruit: Many shiny brown, spherical seed capsules
Leaf: Sharp needles at the end of round cross section spike.
