Last spring we witnessed the historic breeding of a pair of ospreys
at Upper Newport Bay. See Report.
Construction still continues on the new Back Bay Science Center, so
Southern California Edison offered to move the nesting platform as a
community service. A transmission crew came down to Shellmaker
Island on February 8 and with assistance from California Department
of Fish and Game staff and volunteers, removed the nesting platform
from its existing pole, erected a new pole away from the buildings
and placed the nesting platform with nest intact on the new pole.
Thank you to all of the Edison Orange Region crew. The ospreys are
apparently happy with the move.
