Our vision is that water quality will be improved and maintained, native flora and fauna restored and preserved, and compatible public use attained so that Upper Newport Bay remains a protected and valuable asset to the community. Your support is crucial as we strive to do what is best for the Bay and the community for generations to come. Please help us to achieve and maintain Habitats in Harmony by respecting the rules of the Reserve and Preserve.

We have undertaken to provide money, people and information to achieve this vision in cooperation with the members of the Upper Newport Bay Management Coalition. To be successful we have adopted a transition plan to put in place a highly-proficient, full-time executive staff committed to organizational excellence and able to respond quickly and effectively to the various complex challenges facing us.

As California enters a period of fiscal uncertainty we need to take the initiative. For instance, it is not enough for us to simply offer free natural science field programs if the schools cannot afford the busses to bring the students here. If we are to continue to provide children with inspiring outdoor learning experiences we must seek to provide the busses for many of them too.

Please provide financial support by becoming an NBNF member, donor or sponsor, or hands-on support by becoming a volunteer.

Hands-on education at Shellmaker

Many volunteers get their feet wet, so to speak, at our Annual Cleanup Day held on the third Saturday of September as part of California Coastal Cleanup Day. Each year about 1000 people spend the morning picking up trash at UNB. As much as 20 tons of trash and a ton or more of recyclables are collected. Items include sofas, strollers and other equally large articles. Individuals, families and groups are all welcome on Cleanup Day. Another way to volunteer, without making the commitment required to be a Naturalist or Associate, is to take part in hands-on restoration activities.
