Aquarists are needed to continue the regular care, feeding, water quality testing and maintenance of our indoor and outdoor marine aquaria. Saturday feeding is currently the most pressing need.

Feeding: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Commitment to a set schedule is helpful (i.e. – feeding every Tuesday morning).

Water Quality Testing & Cleaning: 2-4 times a month.

Qualifications Needed:

Passion and motivation to give regular care to our marine aquaria.

Training Given:

Detailed training on feeding of aquaria, water quality testing and cleaning will be given by DFG staff or experienced aquarist. Attend period trainings and/or meetings to get updates from DFG’s Education Program Coordinator.

Written job instructions.

Job Description:

Weekly feedings which require food prep and quantity monitoring; completing logs to track feedings, cleanings, water quality monitoring and noting changes or potential problems; monitoring of temperature, water quality and overall health of the tanks and organisms and reporting unusual circumstances or animal behavior to staff; cleaning tanks which includes water changes, removal of algae from the glass/acrylic, vacuuming the bottom substrate and removing any loose debris or dead organisms; and occasionally assisting DFG staff with tank repairs, modifications, replacements, etc.

Job Expectations:

A commitment to a minimum of a 6-month period.
