the Help Wanted section of our web site. Here we have a complete listing
of volunteer and intern opportunities at Upper Newport Bay, including the
Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center and the Back Bay Science Center.
It is updated monthly. Bold text indicates new information.
Generally all new volunteers are expected to attend a one-day orientation training provided jointly by OC Parks, California Department of Fish and Game, California Coastal Commission and the Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends in order to fill Associate Level positions. See Details and Dates. If you are not able to make this commitment, another way to become involved is by participating in hands-on restoration activities. Associates who have been regularly volunteering at the Bay are invited to take the 10-week Naturalist Training offered each fall in order to be eligible for the Naturalist Level positions. Some of these may have additional job-specific training requirements, such as Water Safety Check-Off for Kayak and Canoe Tour Leaders. In certain cases (i.e. those positions listed as Naturalist*), alternate job-specific qualifications (e.g. UCCE Master Gardener for Restoration-Education Green Thumb) are acceptable as noted in the posting.
