Newport Beach Jaycees Clean up Back Bay

Twenty enthusiastic volunteers from the Newport Beach Jaycees joined NBNF Program Coordinator Patrick McCaffrey on a shoreline cleanup at Upper Newport Bay on Saturday, March 7. They met at the Newport Aquatic Center and spent nearly two hours picking up trash before heading out on the water for a brief kayak up the Bay. They collected 15 full bags of mostly fragments of Styrofoam cups, plates and sandwich boxes.

Styrofoam does not biodegrade, it just breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces that are a hazard to the birds and marine life here at the Bay and in the ocean.
