Estuary Awareness Day is a family festival to
promote the importance of Upper Newport Bay as the largest remaining
natural estuary in southern California, and provide an understanding
of how estuaries link the land and the ocean. Students are invited
to create a poster for display at the festival that will illustrate
the beauty of the Bay as home to plants, birds, fish and other
wildlife, and/or tell people how litter washed down storm drains
many miles inland ends up polluting the Bay. This will make a great
class art project.
Posters will be judged and prizes awarded by the Newport Beach Arts
Commission at Estuary Awareness Day. There will be one prize for
each grade, K-12. In addition, one poster will be selected for
scanning and use in promoting our 15th annual Upper Newport Bay
Cleanup Day to be held on September 18, 2004.
