The Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve was opened on April 11, 1975 with the following words, "In the name of the people of the State of California , so that this and future generations may continue to have, to use and enjoy the priceless heritage of the wildlife resources, the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve is hereby dedicated."

You can help ensure that future generations will continue to enjoy the Bay by doing something as simple as including the Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends in your will, and/or naming the Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy. The Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends is a section 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to preserving and educating the public about Upper Newport Bay. Contributions are tax-deductible as specified under section (C) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
